Making a Difference!

Lancer recognizes the critical role a food service provider plays in fostering understanding and enabling participation in a campus-wide sustainability effort. Lancer Hospitality and Northland Community and Technical College are working together to reduce our impact on the environment. As environmentally aware partners, we are committed to socially responsible practices, including sustainability, recycling, natural healthy food choices and responsible sourcing that make a difference.

Local Sourcing

In the Fresh Stop Café, Lancer sources local products when possible to get the freshest ingredients as well as to reduce transportation costs and emissions, and eliminate wasteful packing material. Locally sourced and grown fruits and vegetables not only taste better, but are packed with nutrients. Not every product can be sourced locally, but serving Cairbou Coffee, which is fair-trade and shade-grown, helps protect the rainforest ecosystem.

Students and staff can also purchase a 16 oz. reusable Going Green mug in the café for $6.00 – includes the first fill up free and discounts on all future purchases with the mug.  Purchase fountain soda refills for only $1.00 each or receive a $ .30 discount on all specialty coffee drinks

Lancer buys in bulk and makes sauces, dressings, soups and baked goods from scratch, wihch tastes better and further reduces our impact on the environment and consumption of fossil fuels.

Using bulk servings at condiment stations rather than individual servings is also a greener option.

Eating Healthy

The menus at the Fresh Stop Café include a greater selection of healthy Create-A-Balance options. Nutritional information is available for students and staff looking to make choices that best suit their lifestyle and dietary goals.

Reduce-Recycle-Reuse

Lancer participates in recycling programs that include paper, plastic, cardboard, aluminum, cans and fryer oil that is recycled for bio-diesel fuel.

Students and staff are encouraged to sort bottles and cans in recycling containers located in the food service area.

Sourcing Earth-Friendly Products

We use compostable products, such as wax paper wraps, napkins and paper food trays.

Whenever possible and economically feasible, Lancer will source paper, plastic, single use and office supply products made from post-consumer recycled materials.

Lancer is working hard to reduce our impact on the environment.

Thank you for helping to make a difference!
